Animal & Wildlife Rescue Hospital, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo, NSW, 2022
The project is the ‘exclamation mark’ at the end of the circuit for visitors and will inspire strong takeaway messaging to visitors about the zoo’s local, national and global contributions to ‘Securing a Shared Future for Wildlife and People’, and how visitors can make a difference.
With on-display surgery, triage, treatment and labs areas, the building enables the public full access to the work of Taronga in wildlife rescue. Back-of-house areas include for rehabilitation and release programs.
Buildings sit within the Zoo’s greater landscape context which includes discovery trails and gardens. Adjunct to the new facility is the existing Amati Education Centre which has also been refurbished to enable it to interact with a new node for numerous education programs.
