Kangaroo Island Beach Lodges, Kangaroo Island, SA, 2010

The house is sited on the Broome coast with an uninterupted view of Roebuck Bay.

The clients wantd a house that reflected, even facilitaed the way they wished to live. A free flowing, light space with strong but simple connections to the surrounding environment and clear divisions between public and private.

The openings take advantage of the cool summer westerly, and the clerestory and roof scoops allow high level ventilation.

There is a very intimate element to this house driven by the clients desire for a secluded, private space amidst what is otherwise a very social design. This idea of seculsion within a more communal whole is expressed throughout the house at different levels with the use of screens, perforated claddings and semi-transparent glazing.
