Fleurieu Health and Wellbeing Precinct - Early Learning Centre SA, 2025

The FH&WB Early Learning Centre is the first build in a collective of bespoke Health & Well Being facilities master planned for the 4ha site at Chiton on the south coast of South Australia. A unique privately owned and inspired health and well being development.

Sited adjacent the Fleurieu Regional Aquatic Centre (FRAC), the Early Learning Centre acts as a flag ship to the site and is located for ease of access and intergenerational use of the FRAC and the planned future allied health buildings on the site. Not only for the children attending, but also who deliver and collect from the ELC throughout the day.

The project has pronounced connections to the natural environment from within and beyond the building spaces. It is adjacent the adjoining Beyond Wetlands and links to active movement paths including the underpass onto nearby Boomer and Chiton Beaches. Opening up a world of exploration and learning opportunities for its users.

On arrival the entry is clearly defined. Roof forms are dynamic and orientation of spaces designed to flood the interior with seasonal natural daylight to enhance user connections. A grounded materiality of rammed earth and Australian hardwood timbers both externally and internally strengthen the connection to nature and a biophilic design approach enhancing user and visitor experiences.

In addition to passive solar design principles, the sustainability credentials of the building are enhanced by roof top solar, double glazing and on site stormwater overflow delivered to the planned on site and established adjacent wetlands areas.
