Platypus Rescue HQ, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo, NSW 2023

The Platypus Conservation Centre contains a Refuge (some 80 tanks arranged in 5 biosecurity streams for current and impending concerns of species protection in times of drought); a Research Area for ongoing monitoring and breeding studies; a Display Exhibit to allow visitor engagement with the project; and Pre-Release areas in a natural setting amongst the Node 7’s waterways.

The project has involved extensive engagement with stakeholders and a layering of interpretive building and landscape elements, weaving cultural and environmental stories of the Murray Darling Basin and its environmental sensitivities into visitor experiences.
