Remaking Augusta, Maylands, SA, 2017

A turn-of-the-century stone villa on a generous block in Maylands proffered the opportunity to create the forever-home for a young family. Key client requirements were to respect the ol’ villa and maintain the big backyard – and to REMAKE AUGUSTA as a place relax, to cater for an influx of friends and family, with plenty of space to play (inside-and-out) – and to embrace “sustainable living”. So, we’ve expanded only as absolutely necessary: built down (cellar and rumpus), rather than out; have established a broad-connection with the backyard; and integrated careful material selection, a solar-passive design approach, and solar energy systems.

Remaking Augusta is not devised as a status-symbol – rather it’s carefully planned in detail, around practicalities. Life-cycle changes are thought through, for parenting/ teenagering/ grandparenting.
