Uluru-Kata Tjuta, NT, 2026
Troppo’s work on the Uluṟu–Kata Tjuṯa Signature Walk for the Tasmanian Walking Company continues its long-standing commitment to environmentally responsive regional architecture. Set within Uluṟu–Kata Tjuṯa National Park, the lodge and walking experience are shaped by a deep respect for Country, with interventions carefully positioned to sit within the fragile dune landscape while maintaining expansive views to Uluṟu and Kata Tjuta. Drawing from traditional Anangu wiltja forms, the architecture is expressed as a series of lightweight, temporary structures that support movement, rest, and shared experience along the journey.
Responding to an extreme desert climate, the buildings are robust yet adaptable, designed to work with natural forces rather than resist them. Materials are deliberately honest and restrained — weathering externally to merge with the red dunes, while interiors provide warmth and refinement. Prefabrication and helicopter installation enabled precise, low-impact construction, limiting disturbance to the sensitive site and allowing for potential future removal.
The result is a finely tuned system of architecture that is logistically complex yet visually and environmentally light — grounded in culture, responsive to climate, and deeply connected to place.
