Wallaby Way House, Magnetic Island, North Qld, 2007

AIA (Nth Qld) regional commendation, 2008

The Wallaby Way House is located in a forest setting on Magnetic Island of the Townsville coast.  Elegant yet bloody cheap - and fun to move through, separated when required and otherwise broadly connecting with the site. Magnetic Island is without industry, so all materials have to arrive by ferry.  The prefabricated steel portal frames reduce overall material content, and enable openings to be broad.  They’re completed by thin skins of plywood, corrugated clear polycarbonate, foldaway doors and timber louvres.
